Geasoles Knut Lite

I’ve been admiring Geasole shoes for a long time, but custom made shoes intimidate me… what if I measure my feet incorrectly? What if I don’t like the color?

I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for a few years, so I feel confident I know my feet and their measurements, therefore, I finally got shoes from Esther with her new line Knut Lite. They are made with factory dyed leather instead of her hand-dyed options. These boots are cheaper: 117€ vs 145€

I measured and remeasured both of my feet/ankles to make sure I was doing it correctly. I communicated with Esther, asked her many questions, and she was always happy to answer all of them.

I’ve worn these Knut Lite a lot since I got them and  I feel ready to write a review.

Company

This is a small company in Spain that was founded by Esther. She is committed to creating healthy footwear with non toxic, high-quality materials.

Materials  

Esther uses soft and supple vegetable tanned leathers (chrome free), natural colors (non dyed or finished to be hand-dyed and finished later) , so they are chemicals and heavy metals (like chrome) free.

The leather is only dyed on the outer side (grain), so dyes are not in contact with skin. The inner side is natural, without dyes, therefore, it can’t fade, leak, or cause allergic reactions. Your skin will not absorb harmful chemicals.

Dyes used are Low Volatile Organic Compound (Low V.O.C). They are non toxic for skin and body, and are environmentally friendly.

UPPER:

• Nappa calf leather, CHROME-FREE,  1.5mm thickness, Extra soft and supple leather 
• Factory dyed 
• No lining                 

MIDSOLE

• Nappa calf leather CHROME-FREE 1.5mm thickness
• Factory dyed (black)
• Extra soft and supple. It gives more flexibility and lightness to the sole.

ADDITIONAL INSOLE (optional)

• Veg. tanned CHROME-FREE split leather 1mm thickness
• Natural color, without dyes.
• Not removable

SOLE: You can choose from 3 options: 

• Vibram Safe Walking (XS City) 4mm : Excellent flexibility. Good ground feeling.  Good grip (specially indoor, on wet and oily surfaces) . Medium/high abrasion resistance.
• Vibram Tank sole (Morflex) 4.5mm:  Good flexibility. Good ground feeling.  Good grip. Medium/high abrasion resistance.
• Cowhide leather sole: around 3.5mm thickness, it has good adaptability, flexibility and allows Earth connection. Low grip and low abrasion resistance

Design

• Gender neutral
• Custom made to your feet: length, width, instep, ball of feet.
• The boot is made with two pieces of leather, front and back. You can choose the same or different colors for them: black, dark garnet, brown, cognac, blue.
• Reinforced heel
• You choose your sole: Vibram 4 or 4.5 mm, or 3.5 leather
• You choose the color of your thread
• You can add an additional 1 mm non-removable insole

MY DESIGN

• Color: dark garnet
• Thread: dark for uppers, light for sole.
• Sole: Vibram 4 mm
• Extra 1 mm non-removable insole
• Total stack height: 6.5 mm

Custom made / measurements

Because these are made for my measurements, they feel like a glove. The leather is supple and non restrictive at all.

How to measure your feet for length and width:

1. Stand on a piece of paper with your weight on your foot.
2. Trace your foot with a pencil/pen (make sure it is straight all the time)
3. Measure from the middle of your heel to the top of your longest toe: this is your length.
4. Measure side to side at the ball of your foot: this is your width.
5. Do the same with your other foot.

How to measure your feet for volume:

1. You will need a flexible tape measurement.
2. Wrap it around the ball of your foot while you are standing: this is the measurement used for the volume of the toe box.
3. Wrap the measuring tape around the top of your foot, close to your ankle: This is your instep.
4. Wrap the measuring tape around your ankle, just below your bone: This is your ankle circumference.

I was really nervous about getting custom made shoes, but I’m happy I did. They are amazing!

Things to know:

1. If you are planning to wear your boots with socks, take all the measurements with your socks on.
2. Measure your feet several times, different days, and at different times of day.
3. You should condition the leather at least once each season.
4. Not recommended for rainy days.
5. Esther is an amazing shoe maker, make sure you keep a good communication with her.

Care

Gea Soles products are made with high quality vegetable tanned leather, a natural material which needs some maintenance and care. 

To maintain and extend the life of the product, you should clean and apply leather conditioner and/or waterproofing lotion.

Although they are high quality boots, they are not design to be waterproof. I have worn them from the car to the school (I’m a teacher) while raining and my feet have stayed dry, but I do avoid getting them wet.

Opinion

These are my first custom-made shoes even. It was super intimidating to measure, choose my design, and finally order from Esther. But I am glad I took the time to do it. I am extremely happy with these boots.

I didn’t know boots could feel like a second skin. Because of the flexibility of the leather, I can wear them with or without socks, but they work best for colder summer days and fall/autumn.
