Hip, Knee, Ankle Alignment

I hurt my lower back while exercising a while ago. I went to different physical therapists and chiropractors the following year and not one of them mentioned my alignment.

It wasn’t until I discovered minimalist shoes and Katy Bowman that I became aware of my misalignment.

The first step I look was to look down at my feet when I was in a resting position. This is a picture of my feet while I was doing dishes. As you can see, my right foot is pointing outwards. This is after months of working on my alignment. The first time I did it, both feet were looking outwards, what many call “duck feet.” It took time and a lot of practice to get to this point!

At the beginning, I tried keeping my feet and knees looking to the front while going up the stairs. That was my time to practice walking and keeping the right alignment. It was also easy to see both my feet and knees in order to keep them straight. When I first started, my right knee would collapse to the inside and I had to think about keeping it straight. It was hard! I also had to be aware of my hip, as it is here where my alignment starts.

Here is a video of me, showing how I get my feet looking forward. It is a movement that starts in my hip and I can feel it all the way down to my foot.
