Unshoes Saffron
On August 29, 2020 by NoeliaI bought these sandals because they look beautiful and delicate. I used to wear a lot of high heels and I wanted something that could replace them. As with most of my shoes, I bought them second hand, and I am not affiliated to Unshoes.
Unshoes is a small company from Utah, USA. They have a Wildflower collection, where they offer feminine minimalist shoes.
Design
The Saffron platinum sandals have beautiful golden leather straps on a cork footbed. The sole is 8 mm total height. They offer two widths, normal and narrow. Mine are the normal width and they fit perfectly.
Barefoot qualities:
- Wide toe box
- Zero drop
- Flexibility: It gets better with use!
- Stack height: 8 mm.
Compared to other barefoot sandals, the footbed is not as flexible to begin with. I recommend bending it with your hands to increase its flexibility.
This might feel as a design flaw as the straps are thin and soft while the sole feels stiff. The first time I wore them, I though the straps were going to rip… but they didn’t. They are not designed for long walks or hikes! I feel these are your pretty sandals you wear on special occasions.
Sizing
Unshoes provides sizing templates that you must print. They do not provide length nor width measurements.
When you print the template, make sure the scaling is correct. The tracing has a dot to show where the lace will be between your toes. I feel this is the best way to check how the sandal will fit your foot shape.
If you feel the sandal is too wide for you, you can try printing their slim template (only available for Saffron model) for a better fit.
I have size 8, which is my usual size for sandals because I do not like a lot of extra space in front of my toes.
Style
As I stated before, these are your pretty sandals that you’ll wear for special occasions. They look beautiful with dresses, but they can be dressed down too.
I really like how the Saffron sandals look, but they are not the most comfortable minimalist sandal that I own. This is something that gets better with time, though. The more I wear them, the more flexible the sole becomes.
Would I recommend them? Definitely! But strictly for occasions when we need to dress up. These are not walking sandals, they are dress-up sandals.
